{Tue} Technique: Stencils - Club Scrap Feb Artist Team Challenge

Tuesday, February 28, 2017

Hello, Kraftie Friends!!!

The Artist Team at Club Scrap was challenged this month to create projects with Alpha Stencils:
Lowercase Alpha Stencils & Uppercase Alpha Stencils (btw, they are 50% off, Feb 28th through March 6th!!!)

If you came from Debbie's Blog, you're in the right place!
Your next stop is Club Scrap's Blog (Karen's Post)!

I've been wanting to make a faux Traveler's Notebooks for a while...so, I made one for myself (the one with the charm):

I also made 2 for my kids, so I did some stuff a little different than I was initially planning for safety issues...

And I made 3 different sizes, but I liked this one the best...

I used papers and button from the Succulents Collection and Decorative Vinyl Adhesive Covering for the covers, printer paper for the pages, up-cycled gold elastic, The Cinch (to punch the square holes) and Crop-a-Dile (to punch a smaller hole for the closure).
OK, you could use just the Crop-a-Dile for all the holes, but I couldn't find mine at first...haha

I have a video at the bottom of the post, but here are some instructions + options:

How-To Cover:
1. Trim printed paper to size: 6.75" x 9.5"
Score it in the middle, so it will be 4.75" x 6.75" after folded.
2. Adhere Decorative Vinyl Covering on the back of the cover and trim the excess off.
Optional: Use a clear vinyl covering on both sides, instead, after you stencil your covers.

3. Stencil words or initials, etc...using Lowercase Alpha Stencils and/or Uppercase Alpha Stencils, daubers and ink pads.
4. Punch 2 holes on the top and bottom (one on each side of the fold).
Optional: Add eyelets for a more finished look.

5. Thread elastic through the holes (check the video).
6. Add a button (or a bead) and tie a knot (If you're making it for kids, I would skip the button).

How-To Closure (I didn't use it in the kids' covers):
1. Punch a hole on the right edge of the cover (about 1/4" from the edge), right in the middle.
Optional: Add an eyelet for a more finished look.

2. Tie an elastic and thread through the hole, from the inside.
3. Add charms of your choice.

Optional Design: Punch a hole on the cover's fold, right in the middle, and add the elastic from the inside.

How-To Notebooks:
1. Covers: 8.5" x 5.5" cardstock (score and fold it in half or you can add 1/4" on both sides, if you'd like a little extra room)
2. Stencil words or initials, etc...using Lowercase Alpha Stencils and/or Uppercase Alpha Stencils, daubers and ink pads.
3. Pages: 8.5" x 5.5" printer paper - 10 sheets (score and fold it in half)
4. Place a notebook on each elastic.

I stenciled "notes" on one plain notebook (that "s" is a little off though! haha).
I also added a printed panel on the back cover of the notebook on the right:

Here are some more covers I stenciled, for my kids:

Did you get that one? =)
My son loves BB8...and he's 4...BB4!

Here's my video tutorial:

  3. Your project and mine are cousins! I like the hole punching to keep the pages in place better, and your stenciling is so neat. (I struggled with that a little!) Great job!
